Hot Dip Galvanized Steel

A form of galvanization is also known as Hot-dip galvanizing. The process of galvanization involves the use of coating different types of metals such as aluminum, steel and iron by a thin layer of zinc, by passing the metal through an extensive heat application at melting points of zinc at heat levels of approximately 860 °F (460 °C). When the metal goes through this process, the pure zinc (Zn) chemically reacts with oxygen (O2) to structure into zinc oxide (ZnO), which reacts further through the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) to form zinc carbonate (ZnCO3), which is more or less dull grey in color. This is a fairly strong material that stops further oxidization of the metal in many cases and provides protection to the metal below from the elements. Hot Dip Galvanized steel is more over used for the purpose of rust resistance and can be identified by the particular type of formation that it develops on the surface of the metal. Hot-Dip Galvanizing is a form of galvanization that combines the metallic elements of zinc and steel with a string of unique iron-zinc alloys. This new form of steel has more or less the same effect whether coated or uncoated. Welding is possible with galvanized steel but on must be aware of the after effects which can be caused from the resulting zinc fumes. Galvanized steel is appropriate for intense heating applications of about 392°F (200°C). If galvanized steel is used at eve higher temperatures than it will result in the above this will result in shedding off of the zinc layer which is coated on top of the metal.

An added element which is also used in the process of galvanization is lead which is used in particular to improve composition of Zinc with metallic element. This helps in restricting the use zinc on the dipped metal by developing more enhanced drainage properties as well as also aids in avoiding floating dross, makes dross recycling more efficient and efficient.

Hot Dip Galvanized steel sheets are used main in the construction and development industry. Its prominent applications can be witnessed in different infrastructure and construction projects which involves the use of Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel in the making of beams, roofs, pipes, poles, guard rails and road barriers.

The biggest manufacturing base of Hot Dip Galvanized Steel is in China and Russia and the largest markets of consumption and supplies of Galvanized products is in the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, South Africa, United States, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, India and the United Kingdom in recent times.
